Capital Improvements Sales Tax

tax carousel copy

On Tuesday, August 8th, 2017, the citizens of Republic will be given the opportunity to vote on the NO TAX INCREASE renewal of a One-Quarter Cent Capital Improvements Sales Tax.  The original tax, dedicated specifically for stormwater needs, was approved by voters in 1995 and has subsequently been renewed in 1998, 2002, 2007 and 2012.  This proposed renewal would allow for the funds to be used for capital improvements needed throughout the City and not solely for stormwater purposes.  If approved, this tax will sunset in ten (10) years.

Ballot Question

Shall the City of Republic, Missouri, continue to impose a sales tax at the rate of one quarter of one percent (1/4 of 1%) to be collected  for a period of ten (10) years beginning October 1, 2017, for the purpose of funding infrastructure and departmental capital improvements?

A vote in favor of the question will not serve to raise existing sales tax rates imposed by the City of Republic.

Planned improvements include:

*  Sidewalk and Trail Additions

*  East Hines Street Improvements

*  New Animal Control Facility

*  City Gateway/Welcoming Signs

*  Storm Siren Additions

*  ADA Transition Plan Improvements

*  New Digital Radios for Emergency Services

*  Fleet Vehicles - Police Department, etc.

*  Downtown Revitalization

*  Stormwater Projects

Additional needs may be identified over the course of the proposed taxation period.  Watch your July utility bill for more information.
