[ARCHIVED] Vandalism cleanup forces Republic Aquatic Center to close for second day

RAC

The facility will remain closed Monday, July 15th and reopen reopen on Tuesday, July 16th at 9:00 a.m

As a result of the vandalism incident which occurred in the early morning hours of July 14th, the Republic Aquatic Center will remain closed today (Monday, July 15th). The facility will reopen on Tuesday, July 16th at 9:00 a.m. for morning programming and be open as normal from 12:00 – 7:00 p.m. for open, public swim. The facility was cleaned and the water was treated with the appropriate chemicals to eliminate any issues of possible contamination around 1:30 p.m. yesterday and requires a 24 hour waiting period before reentry of swimming patrons.

The Republic Parks & Recreation Department is asking that anyone who might have any information in regards to this vandalism incident to please contact the Republic Police Department. The direct chemical expense in dealing with this matter was approximately $1,000.00 and the lost revenue from the facility closure on Sunday alone was $6,200.00 based on what was anticipated as similar numbers from Saturday, July 13th. We offer our sincerest apologies for all those negatively impacted by this senseless act of vandalism. For those of you that had plans to visit our facility on Sunday or today, for those of you that had a birthday party or private rental booked and were forced to cancel, for those of you that were to take part in swimming lessons or other programming this morning, and for our employees who have lost hours and wages, this is truly an unfortunate event.
