New councilman Eric Gerke was sworn in by Republic mayor Matthew Russell at the Nov. 4 council meeting.
Gerke was chosen from a pool of four applicants, and his appointment was approved by a majority vote of the Republic City Council.
“All the candidates were qualified, but Mr. Gerke stood out,” said City Administrator David Cameron.
Gerke currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending for Springfield First Community Bank. He has worked in banking for 17 years, with most of his career focused on commercial lending and small business.
“Mr. Gerke’s background in commercial lending will be very helpful to Republic as we grow,” Russell said.
Gerke and his wife Carolyn relocated to Republic nine years ago. They have two sons, Austin and Bryce. Carolyn works as a paraprofessional for the Republic Early Childhood Center.
